3 Things You Can Do To Help Your Cat's Healthier New Year Resolution

The holidays have come and the new year is right around the corner. This time of year is always a time to reflect and try to change ourselves for the better. Why not extend that same courtesy to your cats? Our feline friends could always use a few changes to become healthier and happier. Here are a few ways to help improve your feline friend’s life over the holiday season.

1) Get your cat some toys

People tend to think of dogs as active animals and cats as lazy, but most cats love to play. You may just have to do a bit of experimentation to find out what kind of toys they enjoy. Some cats love cat wands, which can be a great way to establish a connection between you and your cat as well. Some cats love to chase things, and many will even play fetch. Other cats love laser pointers. If you really want to splurge, pick up a cat tower or exercise wheel. Try a few inexpensive cat toys first to get a sense of what your kitty enjoys; you’ll quickly discover that your cat may not be as lay as you thought.

2) Take your cat in for a check up

Another common misconception is that indoor cats do not need regular vet visits. While they might not experience the same risks as outdoor cats or dogs who go outdoors, there are still plenty of good reasons to get your cat’s health checked out by a vet. Vaccinations are important, fleas and ticks may have hitched a ride on other animals (or you) and jumped ship, and general health problems are much easier to fix if they are caught early. Just like with people or other pets, a quick, inexpensive check up now could save a lot of money and headache in the future.

3) The ultimate - build your cat a ball arena

For the ultimate in hilarity and easy exercise for your cat, set up a ball arena. This can either be in a large box (big enough for them to run around in) or a dry bathtub. Drop your cat in, and start bouncing a ball around. Most cats will not be able to resist the bouncing ball, and will begin batting at it. This will cause it to roll and bounce, and your kitty is sure to want to chase it. Add even more objects to chase or another cat to the mix for even more chaos. Who knows? Take a video and post it on YouTube; your cat may become a celebrity.

These are just a few ways to improve your cat’s quality of life for the coming year. A happy cat is a more loving cat, a less stressful cat, and a healthier cat. In addition to making their (nine) lives easier, make yours a little easier by keeping an odor-eliminating cleanup product like Bio-nihilator handy. Take care of those accidents and keep your house smelling good all year round. Happy holidays from all of us, and good luck in the new year!
